New Delhi, August 31: Madhya Pradesh booked a berth in the semifinals of the inaugural National Talent Search and Nurture football championship, conducted by the School Sports Promotion Foundation, with a stunning 3-1 victory over Uttar Pradesh at the Salwan Public School, Loni, near here today.
New Delhi, August 30: Madhya Pradesh struck twice through Gwalior lads Rohit Dhami and Shreyansh Shukla in the second half today to edge out Uttarakhand in the race for the second quarterfinal berth from Group C in the National Talent Search and Nurture football championship being conducted by the School Sports Promotion Foundation here.
Madhya Pradesh will meet Group A winner Uttar Pradesh in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
New Delhi, August 29: Telangana and Haryana today set up a quarterfinal clash in the National Talent Search and Nurture football championship being conducted by the School Sports Promotion Foundation (SSPF). Telangana kept spirited Odisha at bay for a 4-1 win in a crucial Group A clash while Haryana posted its second straight win, a 5-0 verdict over Uttarakhand to top Group C.
A brace each by Saif Hussain (19th minute and 40th) and N Naresh (35th and 45th minutes) set up Telangana’s victory over Odisha. Ajit Panyel scored Odisha’s consolation goal in the 53rd minute but it was too little reward for the bravehearts from Malkangiri district.
New Delhi, August 28: A 51st-minute strike by Rajat Singh helped Uttar Pradesh beat back a stiff challenge by Telangana 1-0 in a group A league match in the inaugural National Talent Search and Nurture football competition at the Salwan Public School ground in Loni near here today. The second straight win saw the well-oiled Uttar Pradesh book a berth in the quarterfinals of the championship organised by the School Sports Promotion Foundation.
Rajasthan and Jharkhand assured themselves places in the knockout phase from Group B with their second successive victories over Chhattisgarh 4-0 and Karnataka 8-0 respectively at the DPS Ghaziabad ground while Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir posted facile victories over Madhya Pradesh 4-0 and Andhra Pradesh 5-1 in the three-team Groups C and D respectively. New Delhi, August 19: Uttar Pradesh will take on Jharkhand and Delhi will battle with West Bengal in the semifinals of the National Talent Search and Nurture cricket championship, conducted by the School Sports Promotion Foundation in conjunction with Sports Authority of India, here this weekend.
In the most exciting of quarter-finals played in Sonipat this week, Nauman Azhar captured four wickets in the span of eight deliveries to help Uttar Pradesh edge out Haryana by three runs. Chasing 139 for victory, Haryana was cruising at 101 for four with seven overs left but Akashdeep’s fall slowed down the rate of scoring. The home side’s later order crumbled under pressure. Sonipat, August 10, 2016:As many as 15 States will vie for honours in the inaugural National Talent Search and Nurture cricket tournament, conducted by the School Sports Promotion Foundation (SSPF) in association with the Sports Authority of India. The national tournament will be played here from Aug 12 and will climax at the Bharatnagar ground in Delhi on Aug 22.
SSPF Cricket Council Chairman, former India cricketer Chetan Sharma says he is excited by the tremendous success of the tournament. “Nearly 12,500 schoolboys from more than 800 schools across the country took part in the tournament. The boys have come through the process of playing for their schools and their district teams before being picked for the State teams,” he said. “It creates awesome opportunity for the schoolboys to play a structured, well-organised tournament.”
“Such a project has never been attempted, let alone achieved, in our vast country,” said SSPF Chairman Om Pathak. “With close to 2000 school teams registering to play football and cricket in the inaugural year, the enthusiasm across the nation has been palpable. With the end of the first season in sight, we are able to joyously look at the progress of cricket and football under the aegis of the SSPF in partnership with the Sports Authority of India.”
The 15 teams will play league games in four venues in Sonipat, including the PM Group of Institutions, the Swarnaprastha Public School, DPS Public School and OP Jindal University.
