Schools India Cup set to boost school sports in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

Arguably the biggest platform in the country for promotion for school sports, the Schools India Cup 2018 edition is set to roll in all the 32 districts of the sports-loving state of Tamil Nadu and 4 districts of Puducherry this year, it was announced here at a press conference organised at Hotel Ajantha, Tiruchirapalli, by the Schools Sports Promotion Foundation today.

An initiative of the School Sports Promotion Foundation in collaboration with Sports Authority of India, the Schools India Cup is the biggest talent hunt conducted in five disciplines, namely, athletics, football, cricket, volleyball and basketball, to increase sports participation in schools, identify future champions and nurture them at school-based Centre of Excellence with the help of sports experts and managers. The Schools India Cup model focuses on providing a dynamic sports eco-system to the student-athletes in school, while also nurturing them with quality education for their holistic growth.

On this occasion, 1982 Asian Games Gold Medalist and Chairman of SSPF’s National Schools Athletics Council, Mr Charles Borromeo, saidSSPF’s Schools India Cup each year strives to give our youth more opportunities to play sports at all levels. This year with 5 sports disciplines- athletics, football, basketball, cricket and volleyball under its kitty, SSPF aims at reaching 10,000 schools across the country to provide holistic growth under NTSN programme. The entire registration process has been emphasised to be digital, a way forward in digitalising school sports.”

On this occasion, Dr. S. Ramamoorthiy, Founder and Chairman, Sowdambikaa Group of Schools and the Chief Guest of the function, said, “We are extremely delighted to support the SSPF’s initiative to promote football in the schools across Tamil Nadu. SSPF’s Schools India Cup will lend a major boost to the existing initiatives being taken in Tamil Nadu to promote and encourage our schools to come forward and participate in sports.”
