“U-17 World Cup Contributed Immensely In The Growth Of Indian football”- Bhaichung Bhutia

FIFA Under- 17 World Cup is all set for the final showdown of England Vs Spain. On the eve of this D-Day, legendary Indian footballer and SSPF Football Council Chirman Bhaichung Bhutia shares his views on Football and its future in India.

How FIFA U- 17 World Cup will be useful for football promotion in India?

U- 17 World Cup has already help Indian football. There has been huge growth in Indian grassroots football. All India Football Federation has focus already been working hard for grassroot football. Today we have more than 100 academies in India. It is the most played sport below 14 year in India today. I have not only seen them following European football or FIFA World Cup, but also in domestic tournaments like Indian Super League and I-League. This is a big opportunity to create a football revolution in India. This, by far, can create the awareness, buzz or hype around football that every child will desire to be a footballer.

How initiatives like SSPF will change the face of grassroots football in the country?

In order to promote football or any other sport, we need to strengthen our grassroots structure and to reach out to the masses. This is the best way for talent hunt. With pan India approach and strong digital nexus, SSPF has both qualities to work for the betterment and promotion of sports. We need to understand that there are many budding talents at school level who don’t know their talent. Initiatives like this provide the ideal platform to these kids to showcase their talent and realize that they can pursue their sports hobby as a profession.

How you will be instrumental with SSPF?

Football is my first love. With SSPF, I am representing my passion for football by connecting to schools across the country and motivate children to play the sport. With the kind of experience I have, children can take benefit from me to resolve their problems on fields, can guide them improving their game or in any other possible way they want. I strongly believe that we need to strengthen our roots in schools in order to build a bright future of India in sports arena. With the help of institutions like SSPF we can achieve this with a better approach and reach.

Girls’ football is getting boost in the country. How SSPF will nurture that?

We are looking at introducing this in the coming season

Your message to the kids about developing their football career?

Today children have very vast exposure and easy access to facilities around. I still remember my school days when we had the passion to play the game but we were not so blessed to have such good facilities, which these kids have. Today, kids have best of the equipment, coaching, training available everywhere. I really wish that children make the most of these facilities and groom themselves as a better person and a sportsman.

Your message to the parents as the key player in shaping kids’ sports future.

Child’s first teacher/coach is his/her parents. Parents play an important role a child’s life to shape his future as well as his personality. Same goes with sports as it teaches you the values of life. Parents should encourage their child to play any sport they want as it not only make them more active and fit but also prepare  them for the challenges in future. In today’s scenario, sports can also be a bright future. So one should encourage every child to play his/her favorite sport and try to excel in that.

Does Height Matter For A Goalkeeper?

And, that’s how he saved a goal for SSPF. We should definitely give credit to his height, said the Doordarshan Journalist during the SSPF v/s BBFS match.

There is a perception among people that the football goalkeepers should be tall to perform well in the match. While there are many coaches who will talk about the right technique and height to save a goal, others consider height as one of the most essential factors that determines the effectiveness of a goalkeeper.

Attributes Of A Goalkeeper

Needless to mention, it is just a physical attribute, and won’t really matter in executing the skill. However, if we talk about real match situations, it becomes easier for the goalkeeper to save the goal.

Let’s have a look at the top skills/attributes a soccer goalkeeper should have which are as follows:-

Agility
Reflex
Footwork
Collection
Reading and understanding the game
Organizing the team
Communication
Diving technique
Catching technique
Punching technique
Ball control with feet
Right Timing
Vertical leap height
Reach

Right Balance of Height And Techniques

It is very important for a goalkeeper to have the right balance between the height and technique. If we talk about modern football, a goalkeeper should be both tall and technically sound. Good footwork allows a goalkeeper to cover the length of the goal rapidly and also creates a strong base for diving.

GEOMETRY OF A FULL SIZE SOCCER GOAL

Let’s talk about the geometry of a full size soccer goal.

Height: 2.44 m ( 8 ft)
Width: 7.32m ( 24 ft)

What this means is that if a goalkeeper is standing in the middle of the net and dive to the top corner, ~ 4.0 m (13 ft., 1 in.) will be the distance from hands to the corner. Would the few extra centimeters really matter? What about the leg strength, leaping ability and timing of the dive?

According to a recent report, a minimum height of a goalkeeper should be 1.80m ( 5 ft, 11in.) and the ideal height should be 1.90 m ( 6 ft, 3 in). There are many successful shorter goalkeepers, such as MEXICAN JORGE CAMPOS & COLUMBIAN RENE HIGUITA whose height is 1.75 m (5 ft., 9 in.)

CONCLUSION

What we consider is an entire package of mental, physical and technical attributes for a football goalkeeper and decides whether they should participate in the competition. Height cannot be the “only” factor to be a successful goalkeeper.

A successful goalkeeper should be able to stop the shots, make the right decision at the right team, and should know how to control the batter. These few attributes are more important than the height.

TIPS

• Try to spot the goalkeeper from a very early age.
• Do a little bit of research on the family ground and check the potential height in the future.
• Nurture the player.

Good height is definitely a coveted attribute but it doesn’t define the success for a goalkeeper. Determination to succeed, hard work on technique and development of leadership skills are keys to the top.

Good luck!

Little Saif Dares To Dream Like Ronaldo

3 goals in a row and it’s a hat-trick!!!!

Yes, we are talking about football where a 14-year-old boy from Osmanabad district, Maharashtra made 3 goals to mark a win 3-0 Shamsul Urdu High School. The name is Saif Sayyed, Class IX student of Bharat Vidyalaya Osmanabad school.

It was Saif who made all the goals for his team and he continued his exemplary performance in SSPF cluster level tournament of Osmanabad district where his school played 3 matches. In all the matches he is the only player from the team to score goals. He scored 5 goals in 3 matches for his school team.

This is the pool of talent searched by SSPF. Saif’s school Bharat Vidyalaya Osmanabad have registered with SSPF for the first time but with such talented players it is giving a tough competition to schools like Shamsul Urdu High School who has played under SSPF in previous year.

Saif Sayyed’s father Sayyed Munawar has a small shop of readymade garments and his mother Sayyed Saba is a house wife. Saif has an elder brother too who is in class 10th but he is the one who dare to dream big. He loves Ronaldo. If not in the field, you can find him talking to his friends about Ronaldo’s style of playing. Forward position player in his team, Saif dreams to be like him one day and that’s exactly why he goes for his training at Sahara Sports Academy under coach Shaikh Khalid.

Saif lives with his family in a small city called Khaja Nagar in Osmanabad. Passionate about football, he always wanted a platform to showcase his skills. When his school came across an opportunity to register with Schools India Cup 2017, he and many football loving youngsters were thrilled to be a part of this National Tournament.

Now, Saif is excited and so as SSPF to bring such talent from across country to forefront and proof that India is not only a cricket playing nation. It has also got talent like Saif Sayyed who can do wonders in game like football if given a chance.

“It Was My Turn To Stand Up To The Mark”, Said Shubham Sangwan, Midfielder, Telangana

“Is there a player from Telangana”, asked the social media team of SSPF. I was practising in the ground when I heard this question. However, I was busy practising and felt that someone would tell them that Shubham is from Telangana. Next day was the big match against SSPF. We all were practising hard. It was difficult because we all as a team have met after a long time. Team coordination was one of the major aspects in football. I have always loved football the most among all the good things in life, and SSPF (School Sports Promotion Foundation) has played an important role in giving me the platform to perform my level best in the game.

There was a series of process through which we were selected, at each level we got to know new techniques, skills, drills to improve our game. We (representatives) came from different parts of the country and shared our experiences with each other along with the guidelines of our coaches and managers. The Champions Match held between SSPF and BBFS was a head to head battle as both the teams gave their best. We all reported to SSPF 4 days before the match day. The stay was facilitated well with the best accommodation by SSPF.

Playing With Bhaichung & Renedy

Under the tremendous instructions of our coach Deepak sir and Mr. Harish, manager, we adjusted our allocation and positional play to set ourselves for the match. Our sync became prefect by 22nd, as we won two practice matches. Next day was big. It was the match day, we all were excited to play against Bhaichung and with Renedy, and we were a bit tensed too as we were to play in front of a big crowd and television viewers throughout the nation. We were all determined to beat BBFS.

How Rajat Rathi Played An Important Role?

After a heartwarming ceremony, the match started. It took a while for us to set a strategical play against BBFS’s professional play. Deepak sir came up with some suggestions for midfielders. We successfully converted some attacks leading to a 34th min goal by Mehto the captain. Rathi kept disturbing opponents right wing, eventually helping us to penetrate more in opponent’s defensive area.

Thank you CHOTE LAL!

After half time it was my turn to stand up to the mark, and then I successfully converted chote’s lal’s pass into an overhead goal. We won the match with our keeper with clean sheet. We were presented by medals from Mr. Om Pathak, SSPF Chairman with the trophy, and were titled as The Champions Match winners. It was hell of an experience for me and I thank SSPF for the opportunity.

The last words I heard in the playground were, “And it’s Shubham Sangwan from Telangana who made the second goal for SSPF”.

Sameer’s Journey In SSPF : What His Proud Father Sees

I, as a parent, have been closely observing the activities of SSPF. I must say that they have made tremendous progress in the first year itself.

Why do I say so?

Well I got to know of SSPF when they had organized the first round of School level Football tournament in Gurgaon and other places in 2016.My son, Sameer Seshadri, went on to play from school to district to State in July 2016.

  1. Finally the Nationals at Delhi in Sep 2016. What is noteworthy is these matches were well managed without any issues.
  2. Thereafter Sameer was selected to train in the National Camp at Dehradun. Here again the arrangements were excellent in terms of stay, food and coaching.
  3. When I heard of the Football Tournament in Apr 2017 between SSPF and BBFS, we were really excited. The game and the overall feel of the tournament was great. The most appreciable aspect was the opportunity for the boys to interact and also play with Bhaichung Bhutia and Rennedy Singh. This was an absolutely high level motivation for the team.

The entire sequence of the above events shows a structured approach, professional effort and dedication to a set goal. This is what I call “tremendous progress”

Added to this is great teamwork among the boys and the efforts of an exceptional Coach Deepak Jha.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to Mr. Om Pathak for his vision and the entire team of SSPF for all that is done so far and look forward to even greater contribution to the field of Sports.

On ‘International Day Of Sport For Development And Peace’, Let’s Salute The Power Of Sports

Dangal, Chak De India, Mary Kom, Iqbal, Sultan, MS Dhoni, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Paan Singh Tomar….the list of movies based on sports or sports persons is endless. These stories are inspirational and motivate young people. It strengthens the fact that sports create a strong impact on all our lives and make it better in different ways.

On the day of International Day of Sport for Development and Peace let us dedicate sports in our lives apart from just being a way to stay fit or to break the monopoly in our routines. Sports can drive social change, community development and foster peace and understanding, above all a smile on everyone’s face.

It teaches us the value of togetherness, to think for others before ourselves, to plan for our goals, to relax our worries, to express ourselves better. That is why one of the best to define a sports person is- For a true sportsman, team is his second family.” As all these values have great impact on our personal, social and professional life. The power of teamwork, the importance of selflessness, the impact of performing well is what sports is all about.

Sport is an activity with no age, race or social bar. 6th April was declared the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 2013, and has been celebrated each year ever since 2014. The IOC, in its capacity of Permanent Observer to the UN, has been supportive of this initiative, as it values its potential to recognize sports organizations’ role in and contribution to social change and human development.

Sports serve society by providing vivid examples of excellence. So, let’s celebrate the true spirit of sports. Let’s dedicate a part of us to a sport. Let’s indulge ourselves in sports. Let the value of brotherhood, unity and teamwork prevail in all of us to live better and harmonious life.

“SPORT HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE THE WORLD, TO INSPIRE, TO UNITE PEOPLE IN A WAY THAT LITTLE ELSE CAN”- NELSON MANDELA

Sports create leaders and it completely fits in the School sports Promotion Organization. When I was approached for this program I was not sure if I want to do it. But the essence of the program providing the balance of studies with sports touched my heart. Often elite players are clueless about their future after they stop taking part in sports. But SSPF is one such program which not only ensures to find the talent at the right age but also provide the best education to those kids giving them bright future ensuring in building a strong nation. It ensures the much needed grass roots training for kids to learn the game at the right age and give their best to India.

While we always talk about why we don’t get more medals at Olympics homework starts right from the beginning of the game. SSPF provides the platform for the players to know the game better, understand their capability and at the same time educate them to be better students and citizens of India.

SSPF puts education at the heart of activities making it easy for the players to learn game more effectively. Basketball is not just a game to play it is a sport that changes life makes us smarter with every skill we learn and perform.

I get query how can I build my future? Where should I train? What will I do if even after working hard I cannot make it to the Elite level? What is the future of sports in India? SSPF is my answer to all of them. As we gear up for our first season I request all the budding players and coaches and school teachers to come forward and be part of us. We will help you achieve better and higher.

I feel satisfied and at the same time hungry to be part of SSPF. Satisfied because I found a path which ensures development and hungry because I want to touch every aspiring player heart beat with our program.
